The Marin branch of AAUW (American Association of University Women) promotes equity for all women and girls through advocacy, education, and research.
Our Marin branch is particularly involved with encouraging young women to persevere in math, science and technology (STEM) studies, since these disciplines provide the foundation for success in an increasingly technological society.
Every year we acknowledge graduating eighth grade girls from County public schools who have demonstrated high achievement in math and science and who have been recommended by their teachers. These girls receive a gift card for Book Passage so they can choose a book to enjoy.
We hope that recognition like this will encourage these girls to further pursue STEM studies and ultimately, careers.
